1. REVIEW OF EUROPEAN USER REQUIREMENTS IN TERMS OF INTERNET FILTERING SOLUTIONS
   [according to D2.1 Deliverable]

The research objectives of the European Users Requirement study were associated to the overall goal of the NetProtect project. Thus, the purpose of the research study was to determine differences among European groups as far as their needs and wants in an Internet filtering solution.

2. REVIEW OF CURRENTLY AVAILABLE COTS FILTERING TOOLS
[according to D2.2 Deliverable]

..."This report presents the results of the analysis of 50 commercial filtering solutions currently available to parents and teachers. A clear distinction has been made between 10 filtering tools and 40 other tools. The first category concerned a selection of 10 of the most popular filtering tools. This selection was called the TOP 10 tools and includes BizGuard, Cyber Patrol, CYBERsitter, Cyber Snoop, Internet Watcher 2000, Net Nanny, Norton Internet Security, Optenet, SurfMonkey and X-Stop. The TOP 10 tools have been under a thorough review while the other 40 tools have been under a succinct review. Since the objective of NetProtect is to prototype a European filtering solution, a specific attention has been paid to the evaluation of these tools with respect to their ability to deal with non-English language"...

3. REPORT ON FILTERING TECHNIQUES AND APPROACHES

This report presents the different filtering techniques and approaches used by various tools, products and prototypes. The basic idea of this report is to analyse the maturity of the various filtering techniques and approaches that can be used for developing Internet filtering solutions.

4. REPORT ON THE PRIORITISATION OF FILTERING ISSUES VS. USER REQUIREMENTS

This document presents the technical issues that will be addressed by the NetProtect prototype. These technical issues resulted from the combined analysis of the following tasks:

  • The analysis of the requirements expressed by European users.
  • The evaluation of commercial filtering solutions currently available for parents and teachers.
  • The maturity of the various filtering techniques and approaches that can be used for developing Internet filtering solutions.

    5. USER MANUAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE OF THE PROTOTYPE
    [according to D3.4 Deliverable]

    This report presents the installation procedure and the user manual of the NetProtect prototype system. The prototype system contains two sides, the server side, in which the filtering tools and the overall controller are installed (core system) and the user side (thin client part), in which there is the end user (web-based) console. The user side console uses the standard web browser interface (Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape) without additional software installation.

    6. BENCHMARK DEFINITION DOCUMENT

    This document presents the benchmark that will be used by the NetProtect Consortium to compare the NetProtect filtering prototype to other filtering solutions.
    The benchmark tool that will be used is based on the JRC's study named "Benchmarking of filtering software and services - An analysis framework".

    7. REPORT ON PROTOTYPE EVALUATION VS. OTHER FILTERING PRODUCTS

    This document reports on the results of the evaluation of the prototype vs. the TOP 10 tools that have been evaluated during Work-Package 2.2

    8. USER ASSESSMENT OF THE PROTOTYPE

    This document reports about the assessment of the NetProtect filtering prototype that was conducted in Greece with the school of Litochoro and in France on the logs of a French school.

    9. FINAL REPORT FOR PUBLICATION BY THE COMMISSION

    This document provides an edited version of the restricted final report that was sent to the Commission. It describes the objectives, the work performed and the results obtained during the NetProtect project

    10. WEB SITE PRESENTATION DOCUMENT

    The purpose of this document is to record the work that has been done about the Website.
    It is a guide to the NetProtect Website. It presents the different the parts of the Website, a description of the information they contain and accompanying screenshots.
